Gala Puerto Vallarta–Riviera Nayarit to be postponed
The event was moved from May to the last quarter of 2021.
Gala Puerto Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit, the main business meeting point for the tourism sector in the Mexican Pacific, will be held in October or November, according to Luis Villaseñor Velasco, interim Director of the Public Trust for the Promotion and Tourism Advertising of Puerto Vallarta.
Originally scheduled to take place in May, “La Gala”, as the event is known, has been postponed in order to give opportunity to a bigger number of wholesalers, tour operators, and hoteliers to attend, as by this time restrictions to fly are still in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before the spring break holiday period, “we were inquiring with wholesalers and commercial partners about their possibility to attend, and the most common answer was to postpone”, Mr. Villaseñor stated.
He also said that the idea is to make it an in-person event, rather than a remote one. “This event is totally financed by the destinations, so we wanted to make it worth and have between 50 and 60 wholesalers both Mexican and international. We usually have around 80, but with the present conditions, a lower number is expected.”
With vaccination programs in place in most countries more flexible policies by governments and airline companies, that figure is totally achievable. On this occasion, Puerto Vallarta will host the business center, while Riviera Nayarit will be in charge of the welcome cocktail.
During La Gala, hoteliers form Puerto Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit meet with operators and wholesalers to make business on pre-scheduled meetings. In the previous edition, 1,900 appointments took place.
