Argentina opening borders is in consideration
A complete vaccination scheme to be required
Matias Lammens, Argentina’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, said in La Plata that Argentina opening borders for tourism staggeredly is in consideration by his ministry, alongside the health ministry.
“We are already planning to start receiving tourists in the near/medium future. Beginning with locations that have a decent hygienic status and a complete immunization scheme “, declared the minister.
Also, he confirmed that an announcement on the subject is on the way for the coming days, adding, “With 80 percent of the population over the age of 18 vaccinated, and the number of second doses we are applying per day, we are already expecting a very good end of the year and an excellent summer season.”
The government has increased the cap for Argentines arriving by flight from overseas to 1,700 persons per day and has kept the borders closed until October 1. Furthermore, it is considering the possibility of allowing special flights to expedite the procedure, within the scope of the measures put in place to postpone the introduction of the Delta strain of the coronavirus into the country.
A weekly quota of 11,900 seats has been allocated for the arrival of Argentine residents and non-resident foreigners until September 1. If new safe air corridors are constructed after that date, the capacity is increased to 16,100 seats.
