A total of 120 shelters are almost ready to protect tourists, if necessary, during the 2023 hurricane season, which begins on June 1 in the Atlantic.

Antonio Riveroll Ribbon, director of Civil Protection of the Benito Juarez municipality, explained that they are carrying out verification work. The hotel shelters are different from those activated for the entire population.

We are complementing the information from the hoteliers to give the green light to the shelters, besides we have 10 lodging centers that meet the deadline and serve as self-refugees.

The shelters for tourists are schools located in the part of the city that has an agreement with the lodging centers to maintain them for use during the hurricane season.

According to the National Water Commission (Conagua), there could be up to 21 hurricanes this year, in a season that ends in November.

These shelters are in addition to the 67 anti-cyclone shelters that the Civil Protection will activate in case they are needed, including one where pets are allowed.
