According to the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SICT), Mexico has officially regained its Category 1 aviation safety certification. According to the Ministry, the reinstatement of Mexico’s Category 1 will offer various benefits to both the country and the United States.

In the short term, Mexico intends to create more than 50 additional routes between the two countries, carrying more than 1 million passengers per year. According to SICT head Jorge Nuo Lara, the revival of Category 1 in international aviation safety will offer several benefits to Mexico and the United States.

He expects additional flights between the two countries, which will improve air connectivity. It will boost competition and enhance service quality for travelers, resulting in more routes and frequencies at more competitive pricing.
