Akumal busiest beach destination in Mexico in 1Q

For the first quarter of 2023, the government of Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism reported a 60.5% hotel occupancy rate nationwide.
In the 70 centers that DataTur was watching, hotel occupancy was 60.5%, up 9.5 percentage points from 2022. For beach centers, an average of 142,685 occupied rooms were recorded, compared to 124,300 during the same time period in 2022, an increase of 14.8%.
Between January and March 2023, 19.8 million tourists arrived, of which 13.9 million, or 69.9% of the total, were domestic visitors.
In beach centers, the occupancy rate was 71.7%, up 9 percentage points from the 62.7% occupancy rate recorded during the same time period in 2022.
In hotel rooms, Mexico City saw 10.8 million visitors in the first three months of 2023, while beach resorts saw 9 million.
The busiest tourist destinations in Mexico from January to March 2023 were Akumal, with 87.6%, Playacar, with 86.6% (Playa del Carmen), Cabo San Lucas, with 84.5%, Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, with 84.4%, Puerto Vallarta, with 83.6%, and Cancun, with 80.5%.
