Cancun Airport to have the most seats available in 2023

The airports of Cancun (AIC), Mexico City (AICM) and Guadalajara, are the ones that concentrate the largest number of airline seats scheduled to Mexico during 2023 in international service, totaling 25 million 547 thousand seats, equivalent to 73.2% of the total, according to Datatur, while the terminals of Quintana Roo so far this year has had a growth of 12.51% against the 18.2% recorded in 2019.
For 2023, the main international routes to Mexico with the highest number of scheduled seats are: Dallas-Cancun with 696 thousand 677 seats, Los Angeles-Guadalajara with 654 thousand 550 seats and Toronto-Cancun with 626 thousand 585 seats and for this year there is a schedule of 34 million 903 thousand seats to Mexico coming especially from: North America, Europe, Caribbean, Central and South America and Asia. This represents +7.4% more than what was programmed in 2022 (32 million 511 thousand).
Between January and June 2023, 8 million more passengers arrived at Quintana Roo’s airports, a 12.51% increase compared to 2022. Cancun International Airport receives passengers especially from cities of 5 major markets; the United States takes the first place with about 38% of participation, followed by the domestic market with 34.5%, then Canada with 9.79%. Also, the United Kingdom with 2.1% of participation, Colombia with almost 2%, France with 1.3%, Argentina with 1.27%, Germany 1.9%, Spain 1.88% and Brazil which is down.
According to Javier Aranda Pedrero, head of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), Quintana Roo’s airports have 3.8 million seats available for the fall, projecting a 6% growth compared to the same period in 2022, and this is thanks to the interest that the Mexican Caribbean destinations continue to generate among visitors from all over the world, which makes airlines want to fly to Cancun at this time of the year.
