Cancun has opened its first two free public Wi-Fi hotspots. Both Playa Delfines and Kilometer Zero at the entrance to the Cancun Hotel Zone offer free high-speed internet access.

The two public Wi-Fi areas, both of which are in the Cancun Hotel Zone, were formally inaugurated on Wednesday. They are the region’s first two completely free high-speed internet modules.

The hotspot is a collaboration between the private enterprise GigNet and the Ministry of Tourism.

Luis de Potestad, vice president of GigNet, stated that the Playa Delfines module will have four access points with the potential to service more than 200 mobile devices, claiming that the city was at the forefront of internet development.

There are two access points at the Kilometer Zero WiFi hotspot. Over 50 meters of linear coverage will be provided by both locations.

The public hotspot modules will still be deployed, according to the authorities, throughout the state, including in the towns of Tulum, Solidaridad, Isla Mujeres, and Cozumel.
