In a letter to the Federal Government, the president of the Association of Hotels of Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres, Jess Almaguer Salazar, reiterated this group’s opposition to the current Urban Development Program (PDU).

The hotel manager claimed in the letter that they were making public their refusal to accept the imposition of a PDU approved by the previous council during the final days of that administration because of the adverse effects on the city.

He quotes him verbatim, saying that “the approval of this PDU would have very serious pernicious effects for our city as a tourist destination, which is the source of livelihood and life for all the inhabitants of Cancun.”

Additionally, he notes that the PDU plans to build 300 buildings and about 1,600 homes near the Pok Ta Pok golf course, which is unacceptable because it seriously jeopardizes sustainability.
