Hotels in downtown Playa del Carmen are up to 40% booked

Playa del Carmen’s downtown hotels expect to have a very good year-end season. And in fact, at the moment there are already 40 percent of reservations for December 2023 and January and February of next year.

Given that the summer was not what this sector expected, hoteliers are betting that the last weeks of the year could be close to full.

“For the winter we are expecting an increase in reservations. Just starting this September many of the tourists coming from North America begin to make their reservations, so we have already had a movement of reservations for the months of December, January and February,” said Osner Arjona, president of the Association of Small Hotels of Playa del Carmen.

He pointed out that although the weekend of the national holidays was not what they expected, they are confident that the upturn will begin in October. And the fact that there are already reservations for the end of the year makes them optimistic.

“We are making a base for future reservations for December and January, and I believe that we are already having between 30 and 40 percent of the base, which, with the four-month anticipation, is quite good. And as I mentioned, in October there is expected to be an even greater upturn,” the hotel executive explained.
