The island continues to make steady progress in the recovery of its tourist activity, reported the Cozumel Director of Tourism and Economic Development, Badih Sleme Flores.

Flores says that new direct flights from both Canada and the U.S. will begin arriving on the island. On November 5, a new Philadelphia to Cozumel flight by American Airlines landed. It was the first time with an A-319 aircraft with capacity for 156 passengers, compared to the E-175 that operated for 88 people.

Also on November 5, Air Canada joined in with a flight from Montreal. In the afternoon, Westjet landed from Toronto. According to their program, Flores says Westjet will offer this flight until April 29, 2023.

On November 6, Air Canada arrived from the city of Toronto and will continue to do so once a week until December 18. Afterwards, they will increase that flight to three times per week.

Flores explained that from December 20 to April 9, 2023, Air Canada will fly from Toronto to Cozumel every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, and change again from April 13 to 30, when it will arrive on Thursdays and Sundays.

During that time, Southwest will incorporate one more route from Houston, Texas, which will arrive every Sunday.

On November 12, Southwest will begin to arrive every Saturday from Denver to Cozumel until December 31, according to its schedule.

Badih Sleme Flores stressed that the destination is in a stage of reinvention since many tourists prefer to go to the island even when arriving through the Cancun airport.

Flores says that work is being done in coordination with other agencies to strengthen overnight tourism with new national and international connections.
