The Felipe Carrillo Puerto City Council has declared that real estate development would not be permitted in the Punta al Mar beach access road project.

Mary Hernández Sols, Mayor of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, has stated that they will defend beach access and will not allow the construction of hotels or any other real estate development that connects the town to the shore.

The route will be 55 kilometers long, with 33 kilometers belonging to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve and 22 kilometers belonging to Ejidos. The route to the shore is being built for the benefit of the residents of the municipality.

The City Council is now working on an Urban Development Plan (PDU) to set norms, including guidelines for expected growth without damaging the area.

The Punta al Mar project will include the construction of a beach area with a park, a restaurant, and public restrooms, among other amenities. There are no plans to build hotels.
