The Riviera Maya Hotel Association (AHRM) has unanimously elected Toni Chaves to another four-year term as president.

More than 140 hotels in the area have praised the president for his leadership over the previous two years as he dealt with the COVID-19 epidemic. The association’s Extraordinary General Assembly highlighted Chaves’ efforts to encourage associates to follow security protocols, to maintain close communication with the three levels of government to protect sources of employment, and to advance the reputation of the Riviera Maya as a trustworthy vacation spot.

He was also honored for his leadership in promoting the interests of the destination along section 5 of the Tren Maya, encouraging the regularization of vacation rentals, bolstering public safety, encouraging hotel staff training, stepping up promotion alongside the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), and implementing a historic carbon neutral program.

Toni Chaves added that there is still much work to be done in terms of establishing a connection with the new state authorities to demand adherence to the agreements made with the sector, including promotion with the CPTQ, enhancing destination security, fostering and strengthening associations’ relationships, and improving the conditions of the federal highway due.
