Ana Patricia Peralta, the mayor of Cancun, and Mara Lezama, the governor, attended the opening of the Hospital Joya Cancun . The recently established hospital is the first of its kind in the area to concentrate solely on medical tourism.

During the inauguration, Peralta remarked:

Thank you for believing in Cancun, investing, and establishing yourself to generate more sources of employment and improve the medical offer in our city. This represents the first hospital in the hotel zone, the tourist heart of our municipality.

Authorities took a quick tour of the hospital’s two-story facilities, which house over 35 specialists.

Cancun ranks second in the world for international travelers, according to Armando Joya Munguía, president of Grupo Médico Joya. As a result, the hospital was developed to meet the rising demands for speciality services of the highest order.

It is the first and only one in Cancun’s hotel zone. Its strategic location will enable any request or medical emergency to be handled promptly and immediately, according to Joya Munguía.

Future plans, he continued, include building additional hospital facilities in Playa del Carmen and Tulum, where they also hope to boost the medical tourism sector.
