Iberojet Airlines has resumed the direct Madrid-Los Cabos route with a highly successful flight. The first flight of the 2023 season registered 100% occupancy, generating great expectations to exceed the figure of 8,000 European tourists this year, doubling the amount of the previous year.

The company operates the route with an Airbus A350, making one flight per week, every Monday until September 11. The flight departs at 12:30 p.m. from Adolfo Suárez Madrid – Barajas Airport and returns at 5:35 p.m. from Los Cabos Airport.

This route represents a great opportunity, as it is the second flight from Europe to reach the destination. The first was from London, which was suspended due to the pandemic. In addition, Los Cabos International Airport will receive for the second time in its history one of the largest commercial aircraft in the world, designed for long-haul flights.

Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, General Director of the Tourism Trust Fund (FITURCA), expressed his excitement for this direct connection with Spain, which expands the destination’s market worldwide. This destination is internationally recognized for its gastronomy, quality tourism offer and safety. The goal is to surpass last year’s numbers so that the airline can extend the days of operation of the flight.

Maribel Collins Sánchez, Secretary of Tourism and Economy (SETUE) of Baja California Sur, highlighted the importance of this connection between Spain and Baja California Sur. It not only represents a positive impact on the region in terms of employment, but also boosts tourism and trade, strengthening a prosperous and lasting relationship.

The city received 3.5 million tourists in 2022, 20% more than in 2021, with the United States and Canada being the main outbound foreign markets. Spain has become the third most important market in terms of international tourist arrivals. During the past year, 4,000 European tourists visited the destination, mostly through the direct route between mentioned above.

Spanish visitors enjoy an average stay of 10 nights and spend more than US$5,000 during their visit. This new air connection promises to further boost tourism in the region and strengthen ties with Europe.
