Alianza Mar de Cortés to launch cruise route through northwest Mexico
June 12, 2023
The Sea of Cortez cruise route will start on December 12, 2023, according to the Sea of Cortez Alliance, which was established by five Mexican states (Baja California Sur, Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa, and Nayarit). Holland America will be the shipping company in charge of operating this route. From San Diego, California, the cruise will travel to additional ports in northwest Mexico.
Maribel Collins Sanchez, the secretary of tourism and economy of Baja California Sur, expressed her expectation that the route will be a great success despite the fact that no information has been provided regarding the quantity of tourists and the economic impact this will generate in the state. The objective is to develop into a regional cruise ship that encourages tourism throughout more of the state.
Cabo San Lucas will be the cruise’s first port of call. The company plans to use this trip as a test before permanently adding this route to its list of places that cruise travelers can visit.
The promotion of the Magical Towns of the Sea of Cortez Alliance and the Route of the Missions are two initiatives slated to benefit from the arrival of foreign tourists.
The five states that make up this alliance account for 10.3% of the nation’s GDP and 9.4% of the GDP generated by tourism, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) of the Mexican Government.
