Los Cabos received certification as a “Clean and Sustainable Beach, Platinum Beach, and Good Practices for a Healthy and Safe Environment (PASSE)” for the following beaches during the fourth Meeting of Sustainable Beaches: Las Viudas, Acapulquito, Santa Mara, Palmilla, and El Chileno.

The Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification A.C. (IMNC) organizes the event, which is held this year in Huatulco, and aims to develop and exchange conservation strategies for coastal ecosystems through SEMARNAT’s Standard certifications (NMX-120), as well as the Platinum Beach scheme, an initiative and brand of the Institute.

The Mexican Institute of Standardization and Certification supports coastal ecosystem protection through safety, environmental quality, and sanitary requirements outlined in Mexican Standard NMX-AA-120-SCFI-2016.

Authorities of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) of the Municipality of Los Cabos received the recognition at the conference, which was also given for the same beaches in 2022.

Oaxaca was named the sustainable destination with the most approved beaches in the country this year, with 13 certificates.
