Lodging infrastructure grows in Loreto

The lodging infrastructure in Loreto, Baja California Sur, continues to grow thanks to the increase in tourism in the region. A total of 37 hotels with 1,150 rooms are registered in the municipality, according to information from the Ministry of Tourism and Economy (SETUE). Additionally, 512 rooms are rented out via online channels.

Norma Garcia, director of the Loreto Tourism Trust (FITULORE), explained that the demand for lodging has grown to the point where it is now challenging to find a room to spend the night in the town without a reservation.

“We are a destination that offers a variety of lodging options, including small, upscale, and luxurious hotels. Yes, we advise that you book in advance given the number of rooms you can check. Don’t just jump in because someone says, “I’m coming from Los Cabos,” when they arrive. Today, reservations are required,” she said.

Sandra Felix, commercial director of the State Tourism Trust (FITUES), emphasized that the tourist boom Loreto is experiencing benefits the entire northern half of the peninsula as well as the municipality. He clarified that the goal of the promotional strategies is to encourage visitors to visit additional locations while they are there.

“We advertise the entire northern region, not just Loreto as a city or a magical town. Even though Comond and Mulegé don’t technically have international or domestic airports, they are still accessible by road and provide additional tourist activities. They are both a part of Loreto’s tourism region. Therefore, it is crucial to have the backing of all these municipalities as well as the regional tourism that is naturally generated by just being there”, she said.
