The State Congress of Baja California Sur unanimously agreed to change Article 16 of the Finance Law to raise the Lodging Services Tax from 3% to 4% in order to support social development.

A proposal put out by the Labor Party (PT) in September received the approval of the Permanent Commission on Fiscal and Administrative Affairs.

The revenue collected from this new increase, according to Congresswoman Paz Ochoa, will be allocated proportionally to the amount that each municipality generates.

Following is how the tax’s resources will be allocated: 80 percent goes toward promoting tourism for each town, 17.5% percent for the state, and 2.5 percent goes toward running costs.

According to data from the state government, Los Cabos is the municipality with the biggest collection of the lodging services tax, recording a collection during this 2022 of more than 300 million pesos.
