Sampling shows that Los Cabos beaches comply with water quality standards

The vacation period is approaching and authorities are preparing to keep the state’s beaches, especially those in the municipality of Los Cabos, clean, safe and in order, since they are the most visited beaches in Baja California Sur.

The State Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Coepris) has begun sampling 37 beaches in the state to evaluate the cleanliness and quality of the water. So far, all these areas have been found to be in good conditions to receive bathers who wish to enjoy the beaches.

José Manuel Larumbe, head of Coepris in Baja California Sur, has informed that the samplings carried out by a team of biologists have yielded positive results in terms of water quality in the resorts. Therefore, visitors do not run any risk when performing activities in the sea.

“We have talked about the issue of clean beaches, where throughout the year we are responsible for carrying out different samplings, and above all to ensure that the beaches of our beautiful state are in optimal conditions so that visitors and the people who live in Baja California Sur can enjoy them. There are more than 37 beaches where our biologist goes, takes the sample, sends it to the state laboratory; he is in charge of checking that the conditions of the beaches are adequate and prevent any situation to the people who bathe during the vacations. This is done during three vacation periods, and we have three different sampling points; but it is worth mentioning that more than 37 beaches are checked”.

Coepris commented that each sampling is carried out 15 days after the vacation season begins. The norm establishes that in order to consider the quality of the water as optimal, it must have a maximum of 200 enterococci per 100 milliliters of water. The sampling showed that no beach exceeded the limits, so the public bathing resorts will receive tourists and locals enjoying their vacations without any problem.
