Successful second year of Madrid-Los Cabos flight with 97% occupancy
August 11, 2023
The second year of operation of the Madrid-Los Cabos flight has produced positive results for the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA). The average occupancy rate has remained high at an impressive 97%. Iberojet, the airline responsible for operating the flight, began operations on June 26 and will end on September 11.
Rodrigo Esponda, director of FITURCA, pointed out that these good results have motivated Iberojet’s directors to plan for next year, even considering the possibility of increasing the frequency of flights to twice a week. The Trust pointed out that, in time, the flight to Madrid will be further strengthened, opening the door to the possibility of establishing other routes to different destinations in Europe.
According to a study carried out by the Tourism Observatory, Spanish tourists show great interest in the natural features, gastronomic diversity and sense of security that Los Cabos offers. These factors are becoming attractive elements that will help Iberojet continue to attract a greater number of European tourists in the coming years.
In 2022, Los Cabos managed to receive the visit of 3.5 million tourists, an increase of 20% compared to the previous year. The main outbound markets have been the United States and Canada. However, Spain has emerged as the third most important market in terms of international tourist arrivals. During this period, approximately 4,000 tourists from Europe chose Los Cabos as their destination, many of them choosing the direct route between Madrid and Los Cabos.
Spanish travelers enjoy an average stay of 10 nights and spend more than US$5,000 during their visit to Los Cabos. The new air service between Madrid and Los Cabos has the potential to further increase tourism in the region and strengthen the ties between Europe and this beautiful location.
