Juan Javier GarcĂa Davis, coordinator of the Sport Fishing Tournaments of the Fund for the Protection of Marine Resources (Fonmar) in the state, revealed that a tourist who comes to fish leaves a daily economic income of 2,500 dollars.

This amount is five times more than what a typical tourist leaves when visiting the destination. This data underscores the importance of sportfishing as an economic geneartor in the region.

According to Fonmar, Cabo San Lucas is recognized as a major sport fishing destination. However, the government agency has been working to promote this activity in other regions of the state, ensuring that tourists generate significant economic revenue in these locations.

This initiative aims to diversify and promote sport fishing-related tourism in different areas of Baja California Sur, creating economic opportunities for different communities and contributing to the sustainable development of the region.

Fonmar recognizes that Los Cabos is already established as an important sportfishing center, as mentioned by its coordinator. Currently, efforts are being concentrated in La Paz with the goal of promoting the development of this activity and generating significant economic spillover for the city.

The aim is to expand the potential of sport fishing to new areas, taking advantage of natural resources and promoting sustainable tourism in the La Paz region.

According to the Union of Sport Fishing Boat Owners in Los Cabos, there are an estimated 800 sport fishing boats in the Cabo San Lucas marina. These boats generate approximately $1,000 to $1,500 per day.
