U.S. tourist arrivals to Los Cabos decrease by 8%

August 09, 2023
Los Cabos has faced an 8% drop in U.S. tourist arrivals, the main outbound market for visitors, due to competition and the lack of tourism promotion in the country.
For CNET, the decline in visitor arrivals to Mexico’s tourist destinations had already been anticipated by tourism entrepreneurs. They attribute this situation to the lack of tourism promotion tools, emphasizing that other countries are investing up to 20 times more in their promotion budget compared to Mexico.
Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) reported that, in the first half of 2023, 10 million 843 thousand international tourists arrived by air, an increase of 5.7% compared to the same period in 2022. Visitors from the United States, Canada and Colombia lead arrivals.
According to the Migration Policy Unit-Registration and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), U.S., Canadian and Colombian tourists arriving by air to Mexico between January and June 2023 totaled 8 million 330 thousand, 5% more than in the same period of 2022 and 13.9% more than in the same period of 2019.
