67th edition of the International Marlin, Tuna, Dorado and Sailfishing Tournament is ready
October 09, 2023
This Friday, October 7, at a press conference held at the Puerto Vallarta Fishing Club, the club’s president, Rodolfo Barcenas, unveiled all the details of the 67th international tournament, considered one of the most important tournaments in the region.
Registration will be open until November 7. On Thursday, November 9, at 7:00 AM, the competition will begin next to the Hotel Rosita. On Friday and Saturday, participants will start from the marina area. The awards ceremony will take place on the Marina boardwalk on Saturday the 11th at 7:00 pm.
One of the highlights of this event has always been the awarding of cash prizes for the first places in each species: this year, the marlin will receive a prize of 700,000 pesos, the tuna 100,000 and the dorado 75,000. In the case of the sailfish, it will not participate in the competition, since this species is being protected.
In addition to the cash prizes, there will be other awards, such as fishing equipment and surprises from the sponsors. More than 50 teams are expected to register, which would total approximately 200 participants, with a requirement of 4 per boat.
It is anticipated that this year there will be a greater interest in participating, since there is generally an outstanding presence of foreigners, mainly Americans and Canadians. This has a significant economic impact, as each team invests in the rental of a boat and other expenses to participate, with an average investment of around 60 thousand pesos. In addition, participants who are not from the region usually come accompanied by friends and family.
