The head of Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR), Miguel Torruco Marqués, stated that hotel occupancy in the country was 60.2% from January to July 2023, a 4.7 percentage point rise from the same time in 2002. An average of 261,446 room units were occupied during this time period.

Akumal (85.1%), Playacar (84.1%), Cabo San Lucas (81.2%), Nuevo Nayarit (78.4%), Cancun (76.4%), and Puerto Vallarta (76.3%) had the highest occupancy rates. The strong occupancy of Cabo San Lucas, according to Lilzi Orci Fregoso, head of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, is due to the hotel infrastructure.

According to the Hotel Association, Cabo San Lucas has a greater hotel occupancy rate than San Jose del Cabo and the Tourist Corridor by more than 5 percentage points.

The hotel industry anticipates an average occupancy rate of 70% and a nightly rate of more than US$570 by 2023, cementing Los Cabos as one of the most remarkable national and worldwide attractions.
