Cancun picked as Mexico’s most inclusive destination

Cancun is the most inclusive tourist destination in Mexico, according to a recent analysis by Booking.com titled Travel Proud 2023.

The research chose Cancun, Mexico City, Acapulco, Guadalajara, and Puerto Vallarta as the top five LGBTQ+ options for Mexican vacations after receiving responses from a whopping 11,000 respondents from 27 countries and territories.

Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta used to be pretty much the standard LGBTQ+ vacation spots in Mexico; the latter was even dubbed the “Mexican San Francisco.”

The rise of Cancun as a warm vacation spot is a result of a larger trend in Mexican tourism that is currently in motion.

According to a Booking.com study, 78% of LGBTQ+ visitors now feel more at ease when visiting the nation as a result of the travel industry’s expanding inclusivity.

Furthermore, 70% of LGBTQ+ tourists actively look for LGBTQ+-friendly destinations and activities when they travel.

Playa Chac-Mool and Playa Delfines, two of Cancun’s most recognizable beaches, are renowned for their welcoming environment and popularity with the locals; the latter has even been dubbed “Cancun’s main gay beach.”

While it may not have the same size as events in places like Guadalajara or Mexico City, the city nonetheless holds its annual Pride march in June, and both LGBTQ+ tourists and locals find it to be very popular.

However, throughout the rest of the year, Cancun continues to provide a wide range of LGTBQ+ focused activities, such as fun drag brunches at establishments like el Seor Frogs or dazzling drag performances at The Back Door or the venerable Laser Hot Bar.
