Cancun regains leadership in Mexico’s hotel occupancy ranking
August 10, 2023
The Federal Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) announced that Cancun has regained leadership in the country’s hotel occupancy ranking, registering 81.5 percent during the 30th week of this year, despite the 3.1 percentage point decline from the same period last year.
The average occupancy rate of the 12 destinations monitored by DATATUR was 66.8 percent during the week of July 24-30, a figure that represents 0.5 percentage points more than the previous week.
According to the State Department of Tourism (SEDETUR), during the week of July 22-28, Quintana Roo received 2,103 flights from 112 cities around the world, operated by 53 airlines. 768 were domestic and 1,335 international, bringing approximately 523,637 visitors to the destination.
It should be noted that this holiday season could exceed the projections of more than 1,800,000 travelers, since it is estimated that more than 500,000 tourists arrive in the Mexican Caribbean each week, with the domestic market having a strong presence during this period.
