Cruise Ship Arrival and Boat Tours Suspended in Puerto Vallarta Amid Ongoing Violence

Puerto Vallarta’s tourism sector faced significant disruption after authorities activated a code red alert in Jalisco following a wave of violent incidents on Sunday. The unrest — which included vehicle fires, road blockades, and other disturbances — led to the suspension of a scheduled cruise ship arrival and the temporary halt of most nautical tours in the bay.

The cruise ship Zuiderdam was forced to alter its itinerary and avoid docking at the Jalisco port. The vessel had been scheduled to arrive at 7:00 a.m. Monday at Pier 1 of the maritime terminal, coming from Mazatlán, Sinaloa. It was expected to remain in port throughout the day before departing at 6:00 p.m. for Ensenada, Baja California.

According to information provided by the local office of the Administración del Sistema Portuario Nacional(Asipona), the cancellation means approximately 3,300 visitors will not reach Puerto Vallarta — including 2,400 passengers and 900 crew members aboard the cruise ship.

In addition to the cruise cancellation, nearly all boat tour companies and maritime operators suspended their excursions and bay tours as a precautionary measure. The halt in nautical tourism reflects growing safety concerns as authorities work to stabilize the situation.

Local, state, and federal security forces continue reinforcing their presence in the area, while officials urge residents and visitors to follow safety recommendations until normal conditions are restored.
