The expansion of the International Airport of Puerto Vallarta holds significant importance for the entire region, according to Jesus Carmona, President of the Banderas Bay Hotel Association. This expansion will not only enhance the services provided to tourists arriving by air but also attract new flights.

Carmona emphasized that Puerto Vallarta is the pioneering destination in this region, playing a crucial role in the emergence and consolidation of the Riviera Nayarit. Therefore, it is imperative to improve the service infrastructure and expand connectivity by attracting new flights.

Carmona stated, “It is essential to establish that the origin of tourism in the region lies in Puerto Vallarta, with its land, sea, and air connectivity services. Over time, Nuevo Vallarta has emerged as the origin of the Riviera Nayarit, and we are complementary destinations.”

While acknowledging the efforts made to improve Tepic’s airport, Carmona emphasized that the growth of Vallarta’s airport holds greater relevance for this zone.

The hotel representative highlighted the first-class expansion works of the Puerto Vallarta airport, which involved an investment of 6.4 billion pesos over five years. These works will contribute to the comprehensive growth of the region and attract more visitors.

It is worth noting that in the first nine months of the year, the local airport has already welcomed over five million passengers. In 2022, Puerto Vallarta ranked seventh in domestic traffic operation in Mexico and fifth in international traffic.
