Flights Diverted from Puerto Vallarta International Airport Following Reported Death of “El Mencho”
February 22, 2026
Operations at Aeropuerto Internacional de Puerto Vallarta were largely brought to a halt, with unofficial reports indicating the cancellation of all flights and several diversions to alternate destinations amid Sunday’s violent incidents.
Early in the day, airport authorities issued an alert advising travelers:
“Due to unforeseen situations on routes near the airport, we recommend taking additional precautions when planning your arrival. Traffic disruptions are possible, so we suggest leaving with extra time to ensure you arrive on schedule. Additionally, please check with your airline for the status of your flight to avoid any inconvenience.”
Shortly before noon, cancellations of both arrivals and departures were reported, along with multiple diversions, affecting at least 27 flights so far.
Sources indicate that airlines activated security codes and protocols, evacuating and withdrawing their personnel as a precaution.
However, staff from official agencies and airline personnel who were already inside the airport reportedly remain at their posts.
