Hurricane Norma: cruise arrival cancelled and port closed in Puerto Vallarta

October 19, 2023

Due to hurricane Norma, which is already category 4, the arrival of the cruise ship Navigator of the Seas this Friday was cancelled in Puerto Vallarta.

The Secretary of the Navy instructed through a communiqué to the Harbor Master, that as of noon this Thursday October 19 the port will be closed to navigation to smaller vessels and open to larger vessels in the Bay of Banderas, which caused the cancellation of the arrival of a cruise ship this Friday.

The communiqué advises taking necessary precautions and closely monitoring the bulletins and meteorological warnings issued by the maritime authority regarding the development, trajectory, and impact of the phenomenon in this jurisdiction. These factors will determine whether it is appropriate to open the port for all types of navigation. Additionally, a blue and yellow flag will be raised.

It is important to note that the arrival of the cruise ship Navigator Of The Seas, scheduled for this Friday, has been cancelled due to hurricane Norma. Shortly after intensifying to category 3, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) has now classified hurricane “Norma” as a category 4.
