Major Water Outage Hits Puerto Vallarta as Pipeline Rupture Affects Half the City

April 07, 2025
Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — Starting Monday, April 7, nearly half of Puerto Vallarta will be without running water due to an emergency repair on a major pipeline, local water utility Seapal Vallarta announced.
More than 140 neighborhoods across the city are expected to experience water outages after a 24-inch transmission line feeding the San Francisco water tank suffered a rupture. The affected pipeline connects the radial well system to the tank, which is a critical hub in Vallarta’s water infrastructure.
In an official statement, Seapal’s Director Carlos Ruiz Hernández confirmed that repair crews are already working around the clock to fix the issue, aiming to restore full water service by Wednesday, April 9. “With a bit of luck, some areas may see water return earlier,” Ruiz added.
The San Francisco tank, located atop Cerro del Machete near Campestre Las Cañadas, has a storage capacity of 14,000 cubic meters and is fed by the radial well and ten deep wells. From there, it supplies water to the Superficial Vallarta tank near Rancho del Pirulí, which distributes water to neighborhoods stretching from Versalles to Ixtapa.
Affected neighborhoods include El Coapinole, Las Gaviotas, Vallarta 500, Las Mojoneras, Fluvial, Marina Vallarta, Aralias, Joyas del Pedregal, Vista a la Bahía, and the Hotel Zone North, among many others.
Seapal is urging residents to conserve water and prepare for the temporary disruption. Updates will be provided through Seapal’s official channels.
