Meeting tourism to keep hotel occupancy high in Vallarta

September 01, 2023

After a prosperous summer vacation season, August’s tourism statistics for Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding area are positive. Although this season started out slowly, it eventually turned out well and helped to raise the numbers for 2019, before the pandemic.

Hotel manager Jorge Peralta told the media that the hotel industry finished the summer with an average occupancy rate of 80%, which was a solid start to the second semester of the year. Peralta oversees operations at two hotels in the port.

The manager of the Mío and Friendly hotels stated that it is impossible to establish an exact occupancy projection for the time period that will start this Friday with the month of September because of the tendency of last-minute reservations to predominate.

However, he noted that the meeting tourism segment makes heavy use of the period from September to November:

Events from various industries are already booked that will enhance occupancy in a significant number of hotels in the region that we are prepared to accommodate them. The congresses and conventions that are already scheduled will raise occupancy in the upcoming weeks.

Beyond the final four months of 2023, which are about to start, the hotelier noted that 2024 gives great expectations that it would be very beneficial for the reception of congresses and conventions in various facilities.
