With the stunning backdrop of Vidanta’s world-class golf course in Nayarit, the Mexico Open officially teed off today, setting the stage for a week of exceptional competition and celebration. The opening ceremony was a testament to the collaborative spirit and passion for growing the game of golf in Mexico, with heartfelt speeches from key figures in the sport and tourism sectors.

Fernando Lemmen Meyer, President of the Federación Mexicana de Golf, inaugurated the event by highlighting the significance of this tournament, not just for the country’s growing golf scene but for the younger generations. Announcing the construction of Mexico’s first public golf park in Tepic, he expressed hope that “children will fall in love with this sport,” ensuring a brighter future for golf in the region.

A Global Event in the Spotlight

The Mexico Open is more than a national event—it’s a global spectacle. John Norris, Vice President of the PGA TOUR, underscored the tournament’s international impact, with coverage reaching 42 countries. Representing the PGA TOUR, Norris expressed his gratitude to Vidanta, Rodrigo Suárez Gilly, and the entire team behind the event for their dedication to growing the sport.

“We’re proud to see golfers from seven different countries represented here,” Norris remarked. “The players on the field this week will inspire millions, and it’s an honor to be part of an event that truly showcases Mexico as a world-class destination.”

Vidanta’s role in hosting the event for the fourth year in a row has elevated the Mexico Open’s prestige. Adrián Castillo, Vidanta’s Marketing Director, welcomed guests and reflected on the tournament’s significance. “This is more than just golf—it’s an opportunity to share the natural beauty and warmth of Mexico with the world,” Castillo said.

This year marks Vidanta’s 50th anniversary, and the organization continues to innovate. Castillo revealed that the Vidanta theme park would soon debut a Cirque du Soleil show, adding to the array of unique experiences offered to visitors.

Gratitude and Collaboration

The opening ceremony was filled with gratitude for the many hands that made the tournament possible. Rodrigo Suarez Gilly the Director of the Mexico Open at Vidanta World, acknowledged the dedication of his team, including Verónica Muller, Angelica Zárate, Cecilia Hernández, Víctor Bernal, Michelle Schwartau, and Ricardo “El Pollo” Cortez Alarcón, to name a few, who worked tirelessly throughout the year. “This is a labor of love,” he said, noting that the Mexico Open trophy is “the most beautiful on the tour.”

Suarez also took a moment to thank the entire Vidanta team, calling their course “the best on the entire PGA TOUR.” He commended their commitment to hosting a seamless and inspiring event, expressing excitement for the days ahead.
