April 25, 2024

Last week, a significant commitment to uphold women’s rights and substantive equality in Jalisco was ratified, attended by political party representatives, electoral authorities, candidates for the 2023-2024 elections, and women’s collectives.

María Cristina Cruz Hernández, executive officer of the INE’s 05 District Board in Puerto Vallarta, emphasized the importance of gender equality in all societal aspects.

Adriana Fernández Amaro, an INE district councilor, highlighted the commitment’s 10 points and the previous similar commitment’s impact.

Gloria Idalia González de León, representing the Women’s Network of District 05 in Jalisco, expressed concern about potential lapses in signing this commitment.

The commitment aims to ensure institutions defend, protect, and promote gender equality and non-discrimination against women. It advocates for inclusive language, substantive equality, and measures to prevent violence against women in politics.

Notable signatories include Magaly Fregoso, Yésica Zatarain, Sandra Quiñones, Luz Amparo Delgado Díaz, and Melissa Madero. A moment of silence honored Susana Rodríguez Mejía’s memory. Representatives of the PT and PRD were absent.
