The Jalisco delegation of the Secretariat of Natural Resources and the Environment (Semarnat) reported that there are a total of 27 permits for umbrella rentals on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta.

The problem was observed especially during the Holy Week and Easter, when tourists and locals visited the city’s beaches and found the best spots occupied by vendors or, in the case of the smallest beaches, no place to put their umbrellas.

Last April, Hortensia Dueñas Salcedo, Director of Regulations of the City Hall of Puerto Vallarta, said that 59 umbrellas were confiscated from vendors who reserved places on the beach, since Semarnat’s permits for umbrella rentals have guidelines such as not reserving places and not opening the umbrella before the client rents it.

On the other hand, the delegate of Semarnat Jalisco, Raul Rodriguez Rosales, stated that in the 11 months of his administration, no umbrella rental permits have been updated on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta.

The transparency response lists 27 permits that have been issued, some only for the rental of umbrellas on the different beaches, others also mention their sale or even lounge chairs or kayaks, as well as food and beverages. The permits range from 6 to 122 square meters.
