Puerto Vallarta Dances with Passion and Tradition: The Fiesta of Mexican Folklore in Full Splendor

October 20, 2025
The heart of Banderas Bay pulsed with color, rhythm, and national pride as Puerto Vallarta hosted the 9th National Folkloric Dance Competition — a grand celebration of Mexico’s cultural heritage that filled the city with joy and artistry from October 16 to 18.
Over the course of three unforgettable days, more than 65 dance troupes from across the country brought their traditions to life, turning Puerto Vallarta into a stage of movement, music, and emotion. The event has now solidified its place as one of Mexico’s most important cultural gatherings.
The Malecón: Soul of the Fiesta
While the main competition unfolded at Teatro Vallarta and the Cecatur Auditorium, the festival spirit overflowed onto the city’s most iconic landmark — the Malecón. The Los Arcos Amphitheater became the beating heart of the celebration, drawing crowds from every corner of Mexico.
Despite ongoing restoration work along the seafront, the energy of the dancers and the enthusiasm of the audience transformed the setting into a living mural of color and tradition. Delegations from Chihuahua, Aguascalientes, Querétaro, and the State of Mexico stood out for their strong presence and contagious passion. Families cheered from the sidelines, and local merchants thrived as thousands of visitors filled the streets.
City officials joined in the festivities, including Councilwoman Laurel Carrillo, representing Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía, and Rosalba Alejandra Cornejo, Director of Economic Promotion and Tourism — showing strong institutional support for this major cultural event.
A Tribute to Mexico’s Roots and Artistic Brilliance
The competition became a living tribute to Mexico’s rich traditions, where every costume, step, and melody told a story. From the welcoming ceremony at the historic Hotel Rosita to the dazzling performances on stage, the passion was palpable.
At Teatro Vallarta, young soloists and children’s groups captivated the audience, while the Cecatur Auditorium hosted heartfelt performances by adult dancers, each bringing their own region’s soul to life.
