Puerto Vallarta Launches ‘Everyone Against Trash’ Campaign with New Fleet, Daily Pickup, and Stiff Penalties

PUERTO VALLARTA – In a major push to strengthen urban cleaning services and foster greater responsibility in waste management, the Municipal Government of Puerto Vallarta, in partnership with the environmental company Red Ambiental, has launched the comprehensive “Todos contra la Basura” (Everyone Against Trash) campaign.

This new collection scheme will take effect starting Monday, September 29, 2025, fulfilling a commitment to improve city services by increasing both collection frequency and enforcement. The initiative aims to solidify Puerto Vallarta’s status as a clean and environmentally conscious tourist destination.

Improved Fleet and Daily Service Returns

The primary element of the new strategy is a significant boost to the municipal fleet, integrating ten new collection trucks into the existing system. Crucially, the plan marks the return of daily garbage collection in many key neighborhoods, addressing a frequent concern among residents.

The city has been divided into distinct blocks with specific collection times:

  • Daily Night Service (High-Density Areas): Neighborhoods like Fluvial Vallarta, Vallarta Villas, Versalles, Las Aralias, Conchas Chinas, and Garza Blanca will now receive daily pickup in two shifts, typically between 6:40 PM and 9:20 PM.
  • High-Traffic Zones: Commercial and tourist corridors, including the North and South Hotel Zones, Centro, 5 de Diciembre, Zona Romántica, Marina Vallarta, and Pitillal Centro, will benefit from the highest frequency, with daily collection scheduled across the early morning, morning, midday, and night.
  • Alternate Day/Rural Service: Areas like Mismaloya, Boca de Tomatlán, and parts of the North Zone (including Ixtapa and Mojoneras) will maintain a three-times-per-week schedule, primarily in the morning shifts.

Mandatory Appointments for Large Item Removal

To tackle the improper disposal of large-scale waste, the campaign introduces a specialized “descacharrización” service. Three dedicated pickup vans will handle oversized items like refrigerators, televisions, metals, and wood.

It is now mandatory to schedule an appointment for this specialized service by calling 322 244 58 12 or 322 139 58 83. Authorities have issued a firm warning: residents who discard these large objects without prior scheduling are subject to financial fines or even administrative arrests of up to 24 hours.

The New Environmental Guard and Strict Penalties

Perhaps the most significant change is the introduction of the Guardia Ambiental (Environmental Guard). This new municipal division will be responsible for strictly supervising compliance with the new schedules.

The message to citizens is clear: it is strictly prohibited to take out trash outside of the assigned days and hours. Violations of this rule are now infractions that may result in severe economic sanctions or administrative detention as the city moves to enforce a more orderly and punctual urban image.

The municipal administration calls upon all residents and businesses to cooperate fully with the new scheme, emphasizing that the success of the “Todos contra la Basura” campaign relies heavily on public adherence to the designated rules and schedules.
