Puerto Vallarta Transforms into a Literary Hub with the IX Reading Fair and “Encounter of Letters and Voices” 2025

Puerto Vallarta is set to become the region’s literary epicenter as it hosts the ninth edition of the Reading Fair, now enhanced by the first “Encounter of Letters and Voices.” The event, organized by the local government in collaboration with the Mecenas del Libro Foundation led by Osvaldo Juárez, will take place from January 23 to February 2, transforming Plaza de Armas and other venues into vibrant spaces for book lovers and cultural enthusiasts.

Guadalupe Basulto, director of the Instituto Vallartense de Cultura, highlighted the wide range of activities designed to engage audiences of all ages. Visitors can look forward to book exhibitions, sales, conferences, workshops, concerts, and literary presentations.

The opening ceremony on January 23 at 10:00 AM in Plaza de Armas will feature municipal authorities and the event’s organizers. It will include a musical performance by Edgar Rocha and a children’s show titled  Travelers in the Books by the Wateke Show troupe.

Later that evening, the “Encounter of Letters and Voices” will kick off with local authors Sayuri Sánchez, Pilar Roth, and Juan Azuara, followed by an open mic poetry session at Puerto Café.

In addition to these highlights, the event will host literary workshops at venues such as the Centro Cultural Cuale, the University of Guadalajara’s Costa Campus Library, and the Regional High School of Puerto Vallarta. Among these are workshops tailored for children and a unique poetry ethnography workshop.

The program will also feature book launches, two major conferences, and a literary marathon, including a collective reading of Juan Rulfo’s *Pedro Páramo.*

Organizers view the fair as a significant opportunity to foster a love for reading while supporting local creators of poetry and narrative works. As Osvaldo Juárez aptly summarized, “The Reading Fair will be a grand literary gathering, celebrating culture and creativity in our community.”
