According to the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals, a public registration of certified state real estate agents is in the works. The public registry is being created so that purchasers can hire licensed professionals and the Association can deal with illegitimate agents.

According to Miguel Angel Lemus Mateos, Coordinating President of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI) for Region 18, the registry of licensed people would be used to combat real estate piracy.

The Real Estate Provision and Services Law of the State of Quintana Roo, passed by State Congress in 2014, prevents non-licensed individuals from working as real estate agents.

There are 665 AMPI (AsociaciĆ³n Mexicana de Profesionales Inmobiliarios) certified real estate agents in Cancun, 131 in Playa del Carmen, 141 in Puerto Morelos, 35 in Tulum, 20 in Cozumel, and 12 in Chetumal, according to Lemus Mateos.
