Stores and Costco Set on Fire in Puerto Vallarta; Residents Urged to Shelter in Place
February 22, 2026
An urgent call has been issued to residents of Puerto Vallarta to remain inside their homes and avoid going out under any circumstances, as violent incidents continue to escalate across the municipality.

The unrest comes amid coordinated attacks and road blockades that reportedly began following a federal operation in Tapalpa and later spread to the coastal region. Authorities and local reports indicate that several convenience stores have been set on fire in different parts of Puerto Vallarta throughout the day.
Preliminary reports also point to a fire at a Costco warehouse store located along Francisco Villa Avenue in the Fluvial Vallarta area. Unconfirmed accounts suggest that multiple vehicles in the vicinity may have been set ablaze or damaged by the flames.
As of now, no official statement has been released confirming the full extent of the damage to the affected establishments. However, images and videos circulating on social media show large columns of smoke rising from various areas of the city.
The incidents are unfolding during a day marked by highway blockades, burning vehicles, and reports of armed civilians in several sectors of Puerto Vallarta and the state of Jalisco.
Security operations remain underway, coordinated among municipal, state, and federal authorities. While officials work to verify information and assess the scale of the damage, residents are strongly advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and rely solely on official government channels for updates.
