The meetings and conventions sector is overwhelmed by the success of the year

The success the meetings and conventions industry has seen in just one year, which has resulted in the complete revival of this tourism sector, has astounded the industry. While directing a training session for this industry in the Riviera Nayarit, Gerardo Malagón, president of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Mexico chapter, made this statement.

The executive clarified that instead of talking about the meetings, congresses, and conventions sector in our country recovering, we should talk about consolidating it, with beach locations taking the lead in how they welcome these activities.

    Currently, all productive segments have been reactivated in terms of holding congresses; one of the last ones was the medical sector, but they have also held this type of meetings in different cities.

The executive explained that MPI promotes the education of the entire value chain of the meetings industry; on the recent ‘learning day’, he said, speakers were selected and refresher lectures were given to them. On this occasion, the speakers talked about industry statistics, meeting trends, contact with the event organizer, new technologies, among other issues.

The convention industry will need to work on improving business environment, hiring new staff, and maintaining high standards of service in order to encourage a positive feedback circle.

Beach locations will not suffer for this market sector next year, according to Gerardo Malagon, who also said that they are still the most popular places to hold meetings, congresses, and conventions. However, devoted and skilled staff are needed in all areas to manage event planning.
