The Municipal Government of Puerto Vallarta issued Preliminary Report No. 1467 on Sunday, February 22, detailing a series of security incidents in the city that authorities say stem from events following a federal operation in Tapalpa.

According to local officials, the Municipal Police and the Civil Protection and Fire Department have maintained protection of public and commercial spaces since the first reports, aiming to prevent looting and safeguard residents. Authorities said operational presence has been reinforced across various parts of the city in coordination with state and federal forces. Crews are also working to remove burned vehicles in order to restore traffic flow and normal activity as quickly as possible.

Preliminary Reports Across Multiple Areas

The statement outlined several incidents reported in different neighborhoods:

  • An armed carjacking in the Balcones Vallarta subdivision in the Las Mojoneras district. The suspects allegedly fled toward the Ixtapa delegation.
  • Two individuals on a motorcycle reportedly scattered tire-puncturing devices along the Tepic–Puerto Vallarta highway near Puente Ameca in the Las Juntas area.
  • Vehicle fires along various roadways throughout the municipality.
  • Fires or damage reported at commercial areas including Costco and Plaza Caracol, as well as businesses such as AutoZone Ixtapa, Oxxo Juárez, Kiosko Las Juntas and Plaza Centro City Aramara.
  • At the 5 de Diciembre Market, two fruit stands sustained damage to shutters, wiring, furniture and merchandise. Two motorcycles were also set on fire in adjacent corridors. Authorities said the blaze was quickly contained, preventing it from spreading to other stalls.
  • The non-violent theft of two delivery trucks belonging to a soft drink company in Las Juntas.
  • In the North Hotel Zone, a fire was reported at a business near a department store. As of the latest update, no hotels have been reported damaged.

Classes Suspended Monday

City officials confirmed that classes will be suspended Monday, February 23, in Puerto Vallarta and across the state, in accordance with state authorities.

The Municipal Government emphasized that local police remain in coordination with authorities at all three levels of government and urged residents to stay informed through official channels.

Officials reiterated that restoring normal conditions remains a priority and that safeguarding the safety and well-being of families in Puerto Vallarta is the administration’s primary concern.
