The Traditional Charro Parade Fills Downtown Puerto Vallarta with Color and Tradition

Puerto Vallarta came alive on Saturday, September 14, as it celebrated “National Charro Day” with a vibrant parade that showcased over 200 horses, proudly ridden by local charros and escaramuzas.
Nearly 13 charro associations participated, accompanied by the lively sounds of tambora and banda music, creating a festive atmosphere that drew in hundreds of tourists and locals alike.
The parade kicked off shortly after 11:00 a.m., with the charros gathering at the intersection of Francisco I. Madero and Ignacio L. Vallarta streets in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. The procession continued through the Malecón, eventually ending on Uruguay Street in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood.
In front of the municipal building, the charros made a brief stop to perform breathtaking demonstrations of their skills, captivating the audience with their impressive abilities.
Among the highlights were the children riding their horses, charming the crowd, and the dazzling escaramuzas, whose colorful dresses and graceful routines added a touch of elegance and femininity to the event.
Dressed in their traditional, finely crafted outfits, the charros extended an open invitation to the community, encouraging them to engage with this time-honored sport, which is a proud symbol of Mexican culture.
With great pride, they offered a glimpse into the rich traditions that have stood the test of time.
