TierraLuna Welcomes the Festival Gourmet International

By Paco Morás

November 15, 2021

It may sound obvious or like a bad joke, but the night started with the sunset. A sunset like the ones we who live in Puerto Vallarta are used to. At that moment, exhibitors of the Festival Gourmet International who were about to finish setting their stands, setting up their dishes, and preparing to receive guests stopped for a moment to admire the natural spectacle at TierraLuna, and the mood suddenly changed.

You could feel the excitement in the air. After two years of absence and forced distancing, reunions were full of hugs, backslaps, smiles. Even the hosts, all the TierraLuna staff in charge of the event, took some time to enjoy that special sensation you have before the start of a great event you are involved in.

And a great event it was indeed. Guests started arriving to be amazed by the spectacular place. Exhibitors – restaurants, wine and materials suppliers – were ready to show off their setups and preparations, but above all, their flavors.

It was hard to walk the aisles created by the stands without falling in the temptation of tasting each one of the samples that local and guest chefs had cooked for the occasion. Of course, being in Vallarta made ceviches the most habitual preparation, but not the most common. Because what was happening during the opening of the 26th Festival Gourmet International could be described as anything but common.

Live music, acrobats, the guests’ smiles created a very special environment. While you were walking along the spaces, you could delight not only in the offered gastronomy, but in the infectious joy all around.

At every restaurant stand were present the guest chefs, the stars of the night. And talking about stars, among them was Ramsés Navarro, the most recent Mexican chef to obtain a Michelin star with the restaurant Le Moulin de l’Abbaye in France.

Invited by Café des Artistes restaurant, Chef Ramsés greeted all those coming by his stand. Easy going and quick with the smile, he was very willing to share parts of his experience and his short but successful career. He was certainly a likeable presence in the event.

Worth a special mention is the stand set up by the event’s guests. A spectacular setup of meat with a veal cut open slowly cooking on embers invited everyone to feast not only their palate, but sight and smell too. it was truly a remarkable extravaganza, a high bar for the festivals to come.

As is traditional in every festival opening, organizers presented each one of the guest chefs, gave details of their careers, and posed for the official photograph. This way, among smiles and hugs, the opening of the 26th Festival Gourmet International Puerto Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit came to an end. See you next year!
