Joint Efforts: Puerto Vallarta Municipality and Ministry of Environment Agree on Unified Building Permit Criteria

The Municipality of Puerto Vallarta discovered an Environmental Impact Assessment (MIA) approved by Semarnat for a building exceeding height limits set by the municipality. They’ll meet weekly to coordinate permit requests. Interim mayor, Francisco José Martínez Gil, aims to ensure both MIAs and construction permits align.

This initiative follows 2023’s closure of 22 developments by Profepa due to missing MIAs. Entrepreneurs argued against Semarnat’s involvement in certain areas. Martinez Gil emphasized the need for consistency between permits and MIAs to avoid past discrepancies. He mentioned instances where MIAs were issued without corresponding permits. Moving forward, collaborative efforts will ensure compliance. Martinez Gil also noted Semarnat’s plan to lift closures on eight developments soon…
