Bahía de Banderas Announces Motorcycle Checkpoints After February 22 Violence

BAHÍA DE BANDERAS, Nayarit — Following a violent day marked by vehicle burnings and road blockades, the Municipal Government of Bahía de Banderas announced it will implement security checkpoints targeting motorcyclists throughout the municipality beginning at 9:00 p.m.

The measure comes after authorities spent the afternoon removing burned vehicles and debris from major roadways in an effort to restore normal traffic conditions after the unrest on Sunday, February 22.

According to municipal officials, the operation will include the inspection of all motorcycles and their riders without exception as a preventive and control measure. Authorities indicated that individuals traveling on motorcycles were allegedly involved in acts of vandalism and blockades reported earlier in the day.

Residents are being urged to remain at home as a precaution, as the risk of renewed disturbances remains after more than 12 hours of unrest that began in Puerto Vallarta and later spread to Bahía de Banderas, affecting key roadways along the Riviera Nayarit tourist corridor.

Officials stated that anyone who must leave their home—especially those traveling by motorcycle—should be aware of the new inspection measures to avoid delays during security checks.

Although disturbances had decreased by shortly after 8:00 p.m., authorities from municipal, state, and federal levels announced that surveillance would be reinforced overnight to prevent further incidents.

Police presence remains active at various points throughout the municipality as part of the broader security operation implemented following the blockades and vehicle fires reported in the region.
