Born in Ohio, I was bestowed two degrees at Michigan State University both in the Horticulture Department, a Bachelor's and Master's. I landed a job in Half Moon Bay where I worked my way up the ladder into Manager of the Holiday Crops.
After I left the company, I registered my best hybrids and became deeply entrenched in the African violet world locally, statewide and nationally. I worked in the restaurant business as food server, wine buyer and manager. In 1979, I began a series of yearly vacations to Mexico, choosing Puerto Vallarta as my preferred destination. Over the years, I established contacts in restaurants and began to review them for publication along with making videos of my tastings and interviews. Live entertainment interested me, too, and I began attending performances at the few existing spots until the community exploded and I was able to see hundreds of shows and write articles promoting the talents present in this theatrical community.
