Yet Another 4 Amazing Cenotes Near Cancun

By Tribune Travel

December 21, 2022

In our last post, we talked about cenotes near Cancun. We said that cenotes are essentially sinkholes or enormous cave networks that develop when a cavern’s ceiling or the ground gives way, allowing them to fill with cool, clear, fresh water.

There are different kinds of cenotes, but the two most popular are open-air cenotes (where the roof has collapsed in on itself and is exposed to the sky) and cave cenotes (when most of the roof remains almost in its entirety).

We mentioned four cenotes worth visiting. This time, we will tell you about four more.

Cenote Cristalino, Playa del Carmen

Beautiful shallow pools with a half-cave make up the waters of Cenote Cristalino, an above-ground cenote that is ideal for swimming and exploration.

The cenote is a lovely place to spend time with friends or family and relax while gazing at the clouds because the space is open and encircled by a verdant jungle.

You can go snorkeling and paddle in the cold waters, among other activities. If you are feeling particularly daring, you can plunge off a cliff into the cenote’s deepest areas to get your heart racing.

The Jardin del Edén and Azul cenotes are close by, which is a fantastic advantage and makes it the ideal day to go cenote exploring in the vicinity of the Cenote Cristalino.

Cenote Cristalino is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from Cancun.

Cenote Siete Bocas, Puerto Morelos

The labyrinth-shaped tunnels of Siete Bocas Cenote have seven tiny openings that lead to a stunning turquoise pool.

You can engage in a variety of activities in Siete Bocas, including cliff jumping, swimming in the turquoise pools, enjoying a picnic in the area, and exploring the caverns. Anything is possible for you to do!

Despite being surrounded by a vast jungle, the cenote is relatively tranquil and has plenty of shaded areas where visitors can take a break. You can take a walk in the jungle and take in the scenery if you have a solid sense of direction.

It takes around an hour to get to Cenote Siete Bocas from Cancun.

Gran Cenote, Tulum

One of the nicest open-air cenotes to see close to Cancun is Gran Cenote. It features a variety of tunnels and caverns to explore and is well known for the huge, vibrant surrounding vegetation and the clear, blue waters.

The Gran Cenote is a stunning and attractive location. It includes two sizable swimming areas that are joined by a cave.

Swimming in the tunnels, diving between stalactites, and free diving in the network of cenote caves are just a few of the various activities available.

The Gran Cenote is a top-notch Tulum attraction since it features amenities including private restrooms and outdoor showers. It is always spotless.

Gran Cenote is around 1 hour and 45 minutes from Cancun.

Cenote Suytun, Valladolid

One of the most stunning and renowned cenotes to see close to Cancun is the amazing Cenote Suytun.

A well-known stone pathway in Cenote Suytun leads to a circular platform with a large blue pool surrounding it. When you witness how the sun shines directly on the cenote, you will have an extraordinary and one-of-a-kind experience.

This is a truly spectacular moment when sunlight streams through the cenote’s roof and onto the circular platform below, lighting up the cave.

This is a great area to swim in since it has several large stalactites, cream-gray high walls, and blue pools.

Cenote Suytun is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes from Cancun.
