 Vallarta has a high human development index: IIEG

The municipality of Puerto Vallarta is among the top 10 municipalities with the “best human development index” in the State of Jalisco, according to the Municipal Human Development Report 2010-2020 of the Institute of Statistical and Geographic Information (IIEG).

The study analyzes three essential dimensions for human well-being: education, health and disposable income.

At the state level, health is measured by life expectancy at birth, which provides an approximation of longevity, reflecting people’s ability to enjoy good health and adequate levels of nutritious and quality food.

TAR carrier to offer new Durango-Puerto Vallarta flight starting in April

The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust announced that this destination will strengthen its air connectivity, since as of April 1st of this year, the airline TAR will operate the new Durango – Puerto Vallarta route.

Through a press release, Fidetur mentioned that this new route will have a frequency of four days a week with immediate connection to Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.

Flights will be on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, thus adding 800 new seats per month to the destination with this new route and thus reinforcing the Holy Week and Easter vacation period that is about to begin.

Los Cabos airport adds immigration officers to speed tourist entry process

In response to the dramatic increase in passengers to Los Cabos this spring season, the Los Cabos International Airport is increasing the number of immigration officers to speed up the entry process for international tourists.

According to representative Manuel Salvador Cordero Esparza, the objective is to get the entry immigration lines for Los Cabos travelers down to 15 minutes as opposed to the current wait time of more than 45 minutes to complete the entry process.

The focus of the additional immigration officers will be the peak entry time of 12 pm to 3 pm in Los Cabos when there is a significant influx of international flights and passengers arriving at the airport.

La Paz officials increase food vendor inspections to keep tourists safe

With the increase in temperatures now approaching 80 degrees for highs in La Paz, local officials are out inspecting traditional beach food stalls to make sure the food is kept at proper temperatures to be safe for tourists.

The State Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks announced recently that they will be working on seasonal inspections of the food stalls in La Paz to make sure business owners are properly regulating the temperature of the food.

Due to the increase in fish and shellfish eaten before Easter, the priority is those items. This is especially the case because they have been known to cause food-borne diseases from improper temperature management. Those that sell fresh fish are also part of these inspections.

Over 275,000 visit Mexico’s archaeological sites for spring equinox

More than 32,000 people visited Chichén Itzá for the spring equinox over a two-day period. According to the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), more than 275,000 visitors witnessed the change of season in various archaeological zones around the country.

The INAH reported that the busiest sites, from March 18 to 21, to witness the equinox, which occurred at 3:24 p.m. on March 20, were Teotihuacan in the State of Mexico and Chichén Itzá in Yucatán, which registered 65,101 and 32,683 visitors, from March 18 and 21, respectively.

Throughout the long weekend, other busy archaeological sites across Mexico included Templo Mayor in Mexico City, El Tajín in Veracruz, Tulum in Quintana Roo, Tula in Hidalgo, Monte Alban in Oaxaca, and Palenque in Chiapas, 6,732.

Isla Mujeres police busy with check stops and 92 percent occupancy rate

Isla Mujeres had a busy long weekend, but one without incident. Visitors to the municipality, in particular, the island, were subject to roadside check stops including breathalyzers.

Arturo Andrade Nuncio, Traffic Director of Isla Mujeres, reported 68 officers were on duty over the weekend on ATVs and in patrol units.

Police were dispersed in different surveillance points of the island that included the downtown area, beaches and the east-west perimeter. They were also seen in bars and restaurants ensuring the safety of island families and visitors.

Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde said that in terms of tourism, Isla Mujeres reported an occupation rate of 92 percent in the Insular Zone and 89 percent in the Continental Zone (mainland) hotels.
