Tourinews Awards 2022 recognize the career of Hospiten’s Dr. Pedro Luis Cobiella

Dr. Pedro Luis Cobiella Suárez, honorary president of the Hospiten Group, received the “Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award” from Tourinews magazine for his contributions to the value of tourist destinations by “providing services and health safety to the tourism industry.”

On November 17, during a gala event at the Expomeloneras Conference Center, held during the 10th International Tourism Forum Maspalomas Costa Canaria, in Gran Canaria, Spain, and in honor of World Tourism Day, the winners of the “Tourinews 2022 The Inspiration of the Future! Awards” were announced.

The awards, chosen by a jury and tourism professionals, aim to honor best practices in the sector, which work as a role model and an inspiration to participants in the tourism industry. The jury and professionals evaluated more than 130 nominations to determine the five categories and posthumous awards.

The epidemic highlighted the importance of providing protection to tourists at destinations, a demand that Pedro Luis Cobiella Suárez has been consciously aware of for 50 years, beginning with the establishment of a family business in Tenerife, Canary Islands. Since that time, Hospiten has established a network of 20 medical-hospital facilities, with locations in Spain, Mexico, Jamaica, and Panama.

According to Tourinews, the judges praised Pedro Luis Cobiella Suárez’s aim of enhancing travel destinations by providing “service and health safety to the tourism industry, tourists, and professionals” during the course of his 50 years as the leader of the Hospiten hospital group.

What Dr. Cobiella says

After receiving the award, Cobiella expressed his gratitude for the accolade, stating that it had “deeply moved” him and that it “is always a source of pride” because it “highlights the worth of personal and family efforts as well as our collective commitment to the healthcare system”.

He stressed the significance of the Tourinews Award, as it was the readers who nominated him before a jury of professionals picked him. He said “it is a tremendous feeling to get the affection of the readers and the experts who have decided that I am deserving of this prize.”

In his thanks for the award, Dr. Pedro Luis Cobiella Suarez emphasized that Hospiten’s history has always been intertwined with tourism.

This prize belongs to the entire Hospiten family, without whom this project would never have come to fruition. We were born in the first tourist city in Spain, Puerto de la Cruz (in Tenerife), where we wrote the first chapters in the history of private healthcare in the Canary Islands more than 50 years ago,

Dr. Cobiella expressed his satisfaction at seeing in the following generations of his family the enthusiasm, dedication and effort to continue enjoying this dream called Hospiten that has become a reality.
